Spring 2008 Fitness Events

Frequently, during each semester, special events such as fitness challenges, weight
lifting contests, walking competitions, healthy eating workshops, and discussions on health and overall wellness are held to promote community fitness.

 

Spring 2008

  • Group Fitness Sampler 1/10         5:30–7:30pm      SAC Aerobics Room
    Come and get a 10 – 15 minute sample/demonstration of all the group fitness classes offered during the school year and the instructors who teach them.
  • Ask A Trainer 12-2; 5-7pm       SAC Hallway/Fitness Center Wednesdays
    1/16 - Take Your Med(s)
    Learn some new moves that will be sure to score a nice core with the medicine balls.
    2/6 - JumpStart Your Heart
    Integrate interval training in Healthy Heart Month
    3/12 - Nutrition Month
    What better way to recognize Nutrition Month than reviewing your diet.
    4/9 - No Gym; No Problem
    Going home for the summer? Learn how to stay fit without buying a temporary gym membership.
  • 10,000 Steps... to a Healtier You!
    Sign-up Dates: Jan. 28-Feb. 13, 2008
  • Sign-up Location: Belk Gym 222
  • Cost: $15 (including Pedometer) Students
  • Cost: FREE to the first 100 Faculty/Staff (Thanks to HR)

  • Are you ready to get physically active? If so, this program is for you! Using a pedometer, participants will track their steps with the goal of 10,000 steps per day (5 miles), which is the recommended amount of physical activity by the Surgeon General
  • Group Fitness Instructor Training Fridays
    Jan. 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22     2-4pm SAC Aerobics Room
    Do you want to learn how to teach group fitness classes?  Learn how to count, cue, organize choreography, and much more.                                    Cost:  $30

  • Flexx Appeal 12-2; 5-7pm       SAC Fitness Center Wednesdays
    1/30; 2/20; 3/19; 4/23
    Come get stretched out by our trainers. Trainers will be offering (PNF) Propio – Neuromuscular Facilitation days where you lie there while we do the work for you.
    Learn the benefits of stretching and ways to decrease muscle soreness. Offered monthly in the fitness center in the stretching/abs area.
  • Multicultural Movement Tuesdays,5:30-6:30           SAC Aerobics Room
    Learn various styles of contemporary dance. No Dance Experience Required.  Everyone is Welcome!  Every Tues. in February 2008
    2/5: Zumba; 2/12: Salsa; 2/19: Hip-Hop; 2/26: Belly Dance
  • Mr. and Ms. SAC Fitness Competition Sunday, 2/24 1-3pm  SAC Aerobics Room
    Are you the fittest person on campus? Prove It!!! You will be tested on the 5 Components of Fitness. The male and female with the Best Overall Score will be named Mr. & Ms. SAC Fitness. Win bragging rights and a trophy!
